Impact Racing is a 1996 combat racing game developed by Funcom Dublin Ltd., released for the Sega Saturn and PlayStation. Players select from five distinct vehicles that differ across attributes including speed, armor, engine size, grip, and payload capacity, then compete across twelve tracks while simultaneously engaging in vehicular combat. Every car comes standard with an unlimited laser weapon, and additional armaments — heat-seeking missiles, mines, exploding firewalls, concussion missiles, and smart bombs — can be collected during races. Extra time and armor pickups are also scattered throughout the tracks. Progression depends on more than simply finishing a course; players must destroy a required number of enemy vehicles within a set time limit to advance and unlock bonus rounds. The combination of racing performance management and combat objectives gives the game a dual focus that distinguishes it from straightforward racing titles of the era.
