Kasparov Chessmate is a chess strategy title released in 2003 for Windows, Mac, Palm OS, and Windows Mobile, developed with the endorsement and involvement of grandmaster Garry Kasparov. Players create a personal profile and choose from several modes: local matches against the computer or another human, online play through MSN Game Zone or a local network, and the Kasparov Chess Club, which features 45 opponents rated from Bronze to Gold across exhibition or championship formats. The board can be displayed in 2D or 3D with three visual styles — Staunton Black & White, Staunton Rosewood, and Modern — and notation in algebraic or figurine format. A tutorial section introduces beginners to chess fundamentals, openings, defenses, and endgame strategy. The game also includes 64 historical matches played by Kasparov himself, among them his famous contests against IBM's Deep Blue. Move history, resign and draw options, and adjustable animation speed round out the feature set.
