Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story is a hack-and-slash RPG developed by ACQUIRE Corp. and released in 2020 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Set during Japan's Meiji Restoration, the game casts the player as a ronin in the turbulent Rokkotsu Pass, where swordsmith Dojima has fallen into debt and had his daughter taken as collateral. To repay what is owed, the ronin spends days crafting and selling swords, then ventures into the procedurally generated dungeons of Ipponmatsu Cave at night to gather materials. Combat draws from over 100 weapons and nine distinct fighting styles, and the dungeons support cooperative multiplayer. Beyond the dungeon crawling, the game incorporates a faction system involving three rival groups in the town, with the player able to ally with, betray, or remain neutral toward each. The cast includes returning characters from the broader Way of the Samurai series.
Once upon a time, a blacksmith and his daughter lived beside the lone pine tree, Ipponmatsu, at a mountain pass. However, the man was somewhat... irresponsible with his money. His home and business were constantly in financial trouble. Eventually, his daughter is taken as collateral for his debts... "I will help you repay your debt." Before the hopeless blacksmith appeared an amicable samurai. Though his motivation was unclear, he offered to help the blacksmith with his money problems.
