Knights of Pen and Paper is a turn-based, pixel-art RPG released in 2012, available across PC, Mac, Linux, Android, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game operates on a meta layer: players simultaneously manage a group of tabletop roleplayers and their game master seated around a table, while also controlling the fantasy characters those players portray. This dual perspective extends to combat, where the game master role allows players to select which enemies and how many appear in each encounter, adjusting the difficulty and potential rewards accordingly. Character creation draws from multiple class options — including knights and mages — and a cast of distinct real-world personas such as a grandmother or kid brother to fill those roles. Outside of combat, the game features blacksmithing, enchanting, mining, and gathering systems. The +1 Edition expands the base campaign with new dungeons, a tavern hub for swapping party members, additional bosses, and broader combat options.
