Legacy of Ys: Books I & II is an action role-playing game developed by Dreams and released for the Nintendo DS in 2009, bundling two classic entries in the long-running Ys series into a single cartridge for North American audiences — their first time available in this region. The story follows Adol, a young adventurer who, while traveling the world, hears of Esteria, a once-thriving island now trapped beneath a relentless, inexplicable storm. He sets course for it, intent on uncovering the cause. The narrative is tied to the ancient land of Ys, a realm of great prosperity and knowledge that was obliterated by a sudden catastrophe and eventually erased from human memory. This DS version introduces 3D graphics, touch-screen support, and multiplayer functionality not found in earlier releases. The two games were originally sold separately overseas, making this combined edition the most complete version of the foundational Ys story produced at the time.
