LEGO Universe was a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by NetDevil and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for PC. Released on October 26, 2010, with early access granted to pre-order customers beginning October 8, the game had been in development for several years following initial promotional teasers released by LEGO as early as 2007. Set within a LEGO-built world, the game allowed players to explore and interact in a shared online environment. It launched in English and German language versions. Despite a dedicated player base, the servers were permanently shut down on January 30, 2012, following what the publisher described as unsatisfactory revenue performance relative to the game's target audience. During its roughly fifteen-month lifespan, LEGO Universe represented one of the more prominent attempts to translate the LEGO construction and play concept into a persistent online multiplayer format.
