Lightstep Chronicles is a dark science fiction adventure developed by Eipix Entertainment and released in 2019 for PC. Players take on the role of Captain Cain Phoenix, a military officer whose squad is abducted by a mysterious alien vessel after a routine mission goes wrong. Survival depends on communicating with the ship's fractured, self-conflicted AI through a text-based interface — the central mechanic around which the game is built. As Phoenix investigates the ship's hidden agenda and uncovers its grim secrets, the narrative explores the boundary between humanity and artificial intelligence, as well as questions of transcendence. The game is set in futuristic art deco environments drawn from an off-world underground crashsite and the alien vessel itself, and shares its universe with the Dark Horse Comics series Lightstep. The tone throughout is bleak and cerebral, driven more by dialogue and discovery than action.
