Released in 2001 for PlayStation 2, Mad Maestro! is a music game developed by Desert Productions in which players control Takt, a young conductor working to save a threatened concert hall. The central goal involves traveling through a city, using music to lift the spirits of its residents and persuading skilled musicians to join an orchestra. Once the ensemble is assembled, Takt must lead them through a climactic performance at the symphony hall — succeed, and the venue is preserved; fail, and it closes permanently. The game spans 11 levels, culminating in that high-stakes final concert. A touch-sensitive control scheme is designed to put players in physical sync with the music. The soundtrack draws from the classical repertoire, featuring compositions by Brahms, Strauss, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Beethoven, and other prominent composers.
