Magic Carpet is a first-person shooter developed by Bullfrog Productions and released in 1994, available on DOS, PC, Mac, PlayStation, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and Sega Saturn. Players navigate the game world aboard a flying carpet, engaging enemies across a series of levels in what was regarded at the time as a technically and visually groundbreaking experience. An expanded release, Magic Carpet Plus, incorporated the Hidden Worlds expansion, which added 25 additional levels alongside a winter-themed environment set. The game was followed by a sequel, Magic Carpet 2, in 1995. Critics of the era considered it a landmark title, noting the ambition of its graphics and mechanics as setting it apart from contemporaries. The Hidden Worlds content represents a notable extension of the base game's scope, offering substantially more content within the same framework.
The player plays a wizard (on a magic carpet) flying over water, mountains, and other terrain while destroying monsters and rival wizards (which are controlled by the computer) and collecting "mana" which is gathered by hot air balloons and stored in the player's own castle.
