Maid of Sker is a first-person survival horror game developed by Wales Interactive, released in 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Set in 1898 within a remote hotel steeped in Welsh folklore, the game draws inspiration from the tale of Elisabeth Williams, weaving a story of a family empire built on torture, slavery, piracy, and supernatural mystery. The writing team includes contributors behind SOMA, Don't Knock Twice, and Battlefield 1. Gameplay centers on unarmed stealth and evasion rather than combat. A 3D sound-based AI system governs enemy behavior — the Quiet Ones hunt entirely by hearing, forcing players to hide, creep, distract, and at times simply hold their breath to survive. As the game progresses, enemies grow more acute, making stillness and breath control critical mechanics. The experience is accompanied by reimagined traditional Welsh hymns performed by Tia Kalmaru.
"Set in 1892 and based on the haunting true story of Elizabeth Williams, you play as Thomas Evans, a musician who is thrust into a terrifying battle to save the woman he loves."
