Based on the animated Marvel television series, Marvel Super Hero Squad is an action beat-'em-up developed by Halfbrick Studios and released in 2009 for Wii, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Nintendo DS. Set in Super Hero City, the game centers on the Squad's conflict with Dr. Doom and his Lethal Legion, who are hunting fragments of a shattered Infinity Sword known as Infinity Fractals, each granting significant power to its holder. The game supports one to four players across two distinct modes. Adventure Mode accommodates up to two players cooperatively through six campaigns, with playable characters including the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, Falcon, and Silver Surfer, plus two unlockable campaigns featuring Spider-Man and Dr. Doom. Battle Mode expands the roster to more than 20 characters drawn from the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men, allowing players to execute combination attacks across competitive four-player bouts.
