Released in 2010 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Stolen Memory is a downloadable expansion for Mass Effect 2, developed by BioWare Montréal. The content adds two missions to the base game's action role-playing framework, placing players in the role of Commander Shepard, an elite human soldier. The central objective involves recruiting Kasumi Goto, a skilled operative, as a new squad member. Once enlisted, Shepard assists Kasumi in executing a heist to recover a graybox — a device storing critical information and personal memories belonging to her deceased partner. The expansion integrates into the broader Mass Effect 2 structure, extending both the roster of available companions and the game's narrative content through a self-contained storyline built around theft, loss, and loyalty.

Shepard is sent to recruit Kasumi Goto, a master thief located on the Citadel, a colossal space station that serves as the capital of the galactic community. In return for her help, Kasumi asks Shepard's help on a heist to infiltrate the vault of a ruthless arms dealer named Donovan Hock. She explains that Hock killed her partner, Keiji Okuda, and stole Okuda's graybox, a neural implant that stores his memories as well as confidential and sensitive information he acquired in the past.
