From Ashes is a downloadable content expansion for Mass Effect 3, developed by BioWare and released in 2012 for PC and Xbox 360. The add-on centers on a Cerberus assault on Eden Prime, where the paramilitary organization has seized a human colony and secured a Prothean artifact. With Alliance forces committed elsewhere in the war against the Reapers, Commander Shepard must infiltrate the colony alone to recover it. The central reward of the expansion is a permanent new squad member — the last surviving Prothean — whose presence opens up additional narrative content about the final era of Prothean civilization before the Reapers exterminated their species. Alongside this character, the expansion introduces the Prothean Particle Rifle as a new armament and provides alternative appearance options for every existing squad member.
