Medal of Honor: Vanguard is a first-person shooter developed by Budcat Creations, released in 2007 for the Wii and PlayStation 2. Players control Sergeant Frank Keegan, a soldier serving with the 82nd and 17th Airborne Divisions of the U.S. Army during World War II, fighting against the combined Axis forces of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. The game opens with Operation Husky, set off the coast of Sicily, where Keegan is thrown from an exploding C-47 transport aircraft and must deploy his parachute to reach the ground. From there, combat takes him through Italian-held towns and eventually to a fortified German bunker along the Sicilian coast. Weapon handling is a central mechanic, with players starting equipped with a Thompson submachine gun and able to pick up additional firearms — including the MP40 and M1 Garand — from the battlefield.
