Midtown Madness 3 is an open-world arcade racing game developed by DICE and published by Microsoft Game Studios, released in 2003 exclusively for Xbox. It is the third entry in the Midtown Madness series and marks a notable departure from its predecessors, which were developed by Angel Studios (later Rockstar San Diego). The shift to a new developer coincided with a significant visual upgrade, brought in line with the graphical capabilities of the Xbox hardware. Unlike the earlier entries in the series, no PC version was released, despite initial speculation that one was in development. The game arrived the same year as Midnight Club II, which was itself developed by Rockstar San Diego, the studio behind the original two Midtown Madness titles, creating an indirect competition between the franchises and their respective developers.
