Might and Magic IX is a role-playing game developed by New World Computing and released in 2002 for Microsoft Windows. The ninth entry in the long-running fantasy series, it was rebuilt around a fully three-dimensional engine powered by LithTech, representing a significant technical departure from its predecessors. The story follows an adventuring party sailing from Cheh'dian to Mendossus whose vessel wrecks on the Isle of Ashes in the Verhoffin Sea. After the survivors regroup, they become embroiled in a broader conflict requiring them to unite six Cheh'dian clans against invaders advancing from the west. Gameplay spans ten continents and forty dungeons and incorporates several systemic changes from earlier entries, including overland maps, branching dialogue, a revised character class structure, twenty-three distinct skills, and a more flexible approach to spellcasting.
