Minoria is a 2019 action platformer from Bombservice, the studio behind the Momodora series, released on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Functioning as a spiritual successor to that series, it follows Sisters Semilla and Fran, missionaries serving a powerful religious institution known as the Sacred Office, as they move to disrupt a forbidden ceremony during a period of violent inquisition set against a backdrop inspired by medieval European history. Combat blends swordplay with a range of spells, while defensive mechanics center on dodge-rolls and parries, rewarding careful, measured engagement over aggression. A leveling system allows players to tune character progression to their preferred difficulty. Visually, the game marks an evolution for the studio, rendering its world in HD through a combination of hand-painted 2D backgrounds and cel-shaded character art, producing a distinctive aesthetic that distinguishes it from Bombservice's earlier work.
The story takes place during the fourth Witch War. It is a time of fanatical religious fervor. On the one hand, by the Sacred Office, a powerful organization leading an Inquisition against heresy, in order to purify the sinners who threaten humanity. And on the other hand, those labeled “witches”, responsible for conducting a mysterious ceremony that contradicts the rules of the Church. Set forth with Sisters Semilla and Fran, missionaries in the Church’s service, on their journey to thwart the witches’ ceremony and protect the common-folk from heresy that endangers the status quo.
