Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword is a standalone expansion to Mount & Blade: Warband, developed by Taleworlds and released for PC in 2011, combining role-playing and strategy across an open-world sandbox setting. The game adapts Henryk Sienkiewicz's Nobel Prize-winning novel of the same name, transposing the series' established melee-focused combat into an era of early firearms. Pistols, muskets, and grenades join the battlefield, and sidearms can be drawn mid-melee to dispatch enemies at close range. Players navigate shifting political allegiances, conquer provinces, besiege castles, and pursue three faction-specific story-driven quest lines, each with multiple endings. Armies are fully customizable down to individual equipment loadouts. A deeply researched historical foundation informs the game's assets throughout. Multiplayer is expanded with new maps and the Captain Team Deathmatch mode, emphasizing the tactical tension between traditional weaponry and the emerging threat of firearms.
