Nanotale: Typing Chronicles is a typing-based adventure RPG developed by Fishing Cactus and released in 2019 for PC and Google Stadia. Players follow Rosalind, a novice Archivist sent to explore distant lands, where she catalogues natural phenomena and investigates a creeping magical corruption known as dissonant magic. The game's central mechanic is keyboard input — movement, combat, dialogue, puzzles, and menus are all controlled through typing. In combat, players construct and modify spells, altering their shape and potency to overcome enemies, while deeper knowledge of the world directly strengthens Rosalind's abilities. Exploration spans varied biomes including the Ancestral Forest, the Blue Desert, and the Sunken Caves, each populated with distinct flora, wildlife, and inhabitants. The game supports eleven languages and a wide range of keyboard layouts, with the option to separate language settings for story content and gameplay elements. It serves as a spiritual successor to Epistory.
Since time immemorial the Archivists have studied and cataloged the mysteries of the planet, observing its changes and holding to our vow of neutrality. Yet from the Ancestral Forest to the Blue Desert, the world is suffering. The Tree of Life sings the Final Song and we can feel it in our flesh: the world is dying. We bear witness, but we cannot interfere. We contemplate in silence.
