NARC is a third-person shooter developed by VIS Entertainment and released in 2005 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC. The game follows the investigation of a dangerous new drug called "Liquid Soul," traced across cities in Asia and the United States. Players alternate between two protagonists — narcotics detective Jack Forezenski, voiced by Michael Madsen, and DEA agent Marcus Hill, voiced by Bill Bellamy — both operating under narcotics chief Joe Kowalski, voiced by Ron Perlman. Set in an open street environment, the game allows players to move freely between story missions and encounter twelve categories of randomized street crimes. Stopping these crimes raises a "badge rating," which reflects standing within the police department. The dual-character structure and fluctuating badge system frame the experience around the tensions of undercover law enforcement work.
