NightSky is an ambient action-puzzle game developed by Nicalis and released in 2011 for PC, Mac, Linux, Nintendo 3DS, iOS, and Android. Nominated as an IGF Seamus McNally Finalist, the game centers on guiding a sphere through a series of atmospheric, hand-drawn worlds using a realistic 2D physics engine. Progress depends on reading each environment carefully and applying the right momentum and timing to navigate obstacles. The game spans 11 substantial levels, each divided into multiple areas with distinct topography, and offers several difficulty settings. At various points, players gain access to different vehicles, each governed by its own physics behavior and suited to particular challenges. Hidden secrets and unlockables provide additional depth beyond the main path. An original score by experimental jazz musician Chris Schlarb accompanies the visuals, reinforcing the game's quiet, surreal atmosphere throughout.
