ParaWorld is a real-time strategy game developed by SEK and released in 2006 for PC. Set in a parallel dimension where prehistoric creatures coexist with pre-industrial human civilizations, it draws structural comparisons to Age of Empires through its resource-gathering and epoch-progression systems. Players collect three core resources — food, wood, and stone — through activities such as farming, fishing, hunting, and logging, with stone deposits being finite and scattered across maps. Combat takes place on both land and sea. The prehistoric setting replaces conventional wildlife with dinosaurs and other ancient creatures; woolly mammoths, for instance, fill roles that elephants occupy in similar games. Dinosaurs serve as huntable food sources, though aggressive species will attack nearby units unprovoked. The dinosaurs themselves are stylized rather than scientifically precise. Advancing through epochs unlocks new technologies and upgrades, providing a familiar strategic progression framework within an unconventional setting.
