Developed by HAL Laboratory and released in 2009 for the Nintendo DS and Wii U, Picross 3D is a number-based logic puzzle game and sequel to Picross DS. Where the original presented flat grid puzzles that uncovered hidden pictures, this installment extends the concept into three dimensions. Players analyze numerical clues on a block structure and chip away material to reveal a concealed three-dimensional object. The core challenge draws on the same kind of deductive reasoning found in sudoku, requiring players to interpret row and column values to determine which blocks must be removed and which must remain. Uncovering the finished sculpture provides the game's central payoff. The shift from two-dimensional grids to three-dimensional forms substantially expands both the complexity of the puzzles and the range of objects that can be hidden within them.
