Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is a platformer-adventure developed by Edge of Reality and released in 2004 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and PC. It revives Activision's Pitfall Harry more than two decades after the character's Atari 2600 origins, placing him in a story where a plane crash strands him and a group of fellow explorers across a series of South American environments, including rainforests, glaciers, mines, and ancient ruins. Across more than 50 levels, Harry swings on vines, dodges crocodiles, leaps over pits, and evades rolling logs while pursuing two goals: rescuing scattered crash survivors and recovering artifacts before a rival faction of treasure hunters can claim them. A "Hero's Handbook" whose pages are hidden throughout levels gradually unlocks new moves, and items carried in Harry's knapsack provide solutions beyond basic acrobatics. The game presents Harry in a caricatured, large-headed visual style intended to give the adventure a lighthearted tone.
