Planet Puzzle League is a tile-matching puzzle game developed by Intelligent Systems for the Nintendo DS, released in 2007. Players use the system's stylus to slide colored panels horizontally across the touch screen, clearing them by aligning three or more of the same color in a row. Chaining clears together produces cascading combos that build toward higher scores. The core mechanics follow in the tradition of Tetris Attack and Pokémon Puzzle League, both earlier entries in the same lineage, but the touch screen interface introduces a more direct, tactile way to manipulate the playfield. Within the Japanese Panel de Pon series, Planet Puzzle League holds the distinction of being the first installment to depart from the franchise's characteristic fairy-themed characters, giving it a comparatively abstract visual identity built around geometric panels and bright colors.
