Core Combat is the sole expansion for PlanetSide, Sony Online Entertainment's massively multiplayer first-person shooter. The expansion introduces underground cave systems as new combat environments, extending the persistent territorial conflict that defines the base game into subterranean battlefields. These cavern networks offer distinct tactical conditions compared to the surface warfare of the original game, with new weapons, vehicles, and equipment added to support the expanded gameplay. As in PlanetSide, players choose one of three factions and participate in large-scale battles across a persistent world, earning experience that feeds into character progression in a manner characteristic of the RPG elements woven into the game's structure. Core Combat represents the only major content expansion released for PlanetSide during its active development period, adding a meaningful new dimension to the combined arms, massively multiplayer combat the series is known for.
