Platoon is an action game developed by Ocean Software in 1987, released across multiple platforms including the Amiga, Atari ST, DOS, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, and Apple II. Based on the Vietnam War film of the same name, it follows a squad of five US Army soldiers through a series of missions that recreate key sequences from the movie. Players control each soldier individually, cycling between them as needed. Each squad member can absorb three hits before dying, making careful management of the group essential. The game begins with a side-scrolling jungle traverse where soldiers can move both horizontally and vertically, jumping or crouching to avoid hazards. Subsequent objectives include destroying a bridge and searching a village for a torch, a map, and a trapdoor. Throughout, players must contend not only with enemy ground forces but also booby traps and airstrikes.
