Primal is a puzzle-adventure game developed by SCE Cambridge Studio and released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2, with later availability on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The game follows Jennifer Tate, a 21-year-old woman who travels through a series of demonic realms in search of her missing boyfriend, gradually uncovering details about her own past and the nature of these supernatural worlds. Players switch freely between Jen and her gargoyle companion Scree, with whichever character is not selected controlled by AI. Scree is invulnerable and can scale stone walls, functioning as both a scout and an energy reserve for Jen. As the game progresses, Jen unlocks up to four demonic transformations that enhance her combat abilities and grant access to new skills. Defeating enemies requires depleting their health and executing a finishing move, after which Scree can drain residual energy to replenish Jen's demonic health. Collectible energy crystals serve as additional reserves when Scree's stores run low.
