Prison Tycoon 3: Lockdown is a construction and management simulator developed by ValuSoft and released for PC in 2008. Players take charge of a privately operated prison, overseeing everything from initial facility construction to day-to-day operations, with the dual mandate of protecting society and maintaining financial profitability. Starting with a low-security institution, players can expand toward a maximum-security SuperMax facility. Management responsibilities span a wide range of systems: hiring and paying guards, equipping them with weapons, riot shields, and dogs, setting food rations and recreation policies, assigning inmates to work details, and monitoring the facility around the clock for contraband, escape attempts, and illegal activity. Neglecting areas such as guard salaries can allow organized crime to take hold, while poor morale management risks triggering riots. Players also decide whether inmates are released on parole or kept incarcerated, and can interrogate military prisoners for intelligence bonuses.
