Project Sylpheed is an arcade-style space combat shooter developed by Game Arts and released for Xbox 360 in 2006, serving as a follow-up to Silpheed: The Lost Planet. Set in the year 2632, the story unfolds five centuries after humanity expanded beyond the solar system, colonizing eleven terraformed star systems under Earth's centralized authority. Opposition to that rule has consolidated into a rebel faction called the ADAN Freedom Alliance. The narrative centers on three young pilots newly enlisted in the Terra Central Armed Forces — Katana Faraway, Ellen Bernstein, and Margras Mason — whose bonds fracture after a suspicious incident drives Margras to defect to the enemy. Players control Katana across a series of varied missions, including area-clearance and escort objectives, with optional sub-objectives tied to Xbox 360 Achievements. Unlike earlier entries in the series, the game adopts a fully three-dimensional perspective, offering both third-person and cockpit views. Ships and weaponry can be upgraded as missions progress and enemy forces grow in number and capability.
