R-Type Dimensions is a 2009 arcade shoot-em-up compilation developed by SouthEnd Interactive for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, bringing together the classic coin-op titles R-Type and R-Type II in a single package. Players battle through all 14 stages across both games, which are populated by the alien Bydo enemies from the original releases. A notable feature is the ability to switch between the original 2D pixel art and fully rendered 3D visuals at any point during play, with the 3D presentation accompanied by rearranged versions of the original soundtracks. The underlying gameplay mechanics remain faithful to the arcade originals. Alongside the traditional mode, an Infinite mode removes the standard continue limitations, allowing uninterrupted progression from the opening stage through to the final boss. Both modes support single-player and local multiplayer.
