Red Dead Revolver is an action-adventure shooter released in 2004 by Rockstar San Diego, available on PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Set in the American frontier of the 1880s, the game follows Red Harlow, a bounty hunter driven by vengeance after his parents are killed. The single-player campaign tracks his pursuit of justice across the rough terrain of the Old West. Beyond the main story, a local multiplayer mode supports up to four players, who can compete against one another or AI-controlled opponents in free-for-all combat. The first entry in the Red Dead series, the game established the franchise's foundation of Western-themed action and revenge-driven storytelling before later installments expanded the scope considerably. Its blend of period setting, gunfight-focused gameplay, and narrative structure made it a notable early example of the genre on sixth-generation hardware.
Red, the protagonist, witnesses his parents' death as a child and grows up with a burning desire for revenge. Red becomes a skilled bounty hunter as an adult, tracking down notorious criminals across various Western locales. Throughout his journey, Red encounters a diverse cast of characters, including allies and enemies.
