Revolution X is a 1994 light-gun shooter from Midway Games in which players fight back against a totalitarian organization that has suppressed rock music and taken hostages. Working alongside a digitized version of the real-world band Aerosmith, players blast through enemy-filled stages, collecting power-ups and freeing captives along the way. The game makes heavy use of digitized graphics throughout its environments and characters, with Aerosmith rendered directly from their likenesses, and incorporates FMV sequences. Originally released as an arcade title, Revolution X was later ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, PC, Sega Saturn, and PlayStation. The game's central hook is the collaboration with Aerosmith, whose presence anchors both the visual presentation and the premise of reclaiming rock and roll from authoritarian suppression.
