Developed by Guerrilla Cambridge and released in 2016 exclusively for PlayStation 4 with PlayStation VR support, Rigs: Mechanized Combat League is a competitive first-person arena shooter that merges mechanized combat with organized sport. Set in a futuristic league, the game casts players as pilots controlling large mechanical machines called Rigs, competing in team-based gladiatorial matches held across stadiums worldwide. The VR integration places pilots directly inside the cockpit, making spatial awareness and movement central to the experience. The design draws from both traditional shooter mechanics and sports competition, framing each match as a structured athletic event rather than a straightforward deathmatch. As one of the earlier titles built specifically around PlayStation VR, it represents an attempt to establish fast-paced, competitive multiplayer as a viable format within the constraints and possibilities of consumer virtual reality hardware.
Each RIG comes with its own specialties, allowing players to develop distinctive combat styles and team tactics based on their RIGs’ size, shape, abilities and weapons. Once you strap on the Morpheus headset and select a RIG from your garage, you’re immersed in a first-person combat experience unlike any other. Coming in 2016.
