River City Ransom: Underground is a beat 'em up RPG developed by Conatus Creative and released in 2017 for PC, Linux, and Mac. Set years after the events of the original NES game, it follows a new group of fighters navigating a sprawling, chaotic city while becoming entangled in a kidnapping conspiracy alongside returning characters Alex and Ryan. Players earn money, purchase upgrades across 22 shops, and unlock fighting moves as they progress through 140 explorable levels filled with hazards and secrets. The game offers more than 500 distinct street fighting techniques and dozens of weapons. A story campaign supports up to four players in online co-op, with ten playable heroes each possessing a unique fighting style. A separate arena mode accommodates up to four players in competitive combat, featuring team selection, modifier options, CPU partners, and a roster of 44 fighters drawn from both heroic and villainous roles.
