Rush Hour is a shooter-racing hybrid developed by CommaVid, Inc. for the Atari 2600, originally intended for a 1983 release before being cancelled. CGE Services Corp. later acquired the rights and published the game at the Classic Gaming Expo in 2003. Players navigate a five-lane highway during rush hour traffic, weaving around hazards such as nails, barricades, and wrecked vehicles while targeting the sources of congestion and blasting them off the road. Collisions are consequential — any impact reduces the car's speed and, if sustained, leads to a breakdown. The game combines the momentum of a driving title with the active engagement of a shooter, tasking players with clearing the road rather than simply surviving it. Its unusual two-decade journey from shelved prototype to official release makes it a notable curiosity in the Atari 2600 library.
