Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword is a precision-focused hack-and-slash title developed by Grounding Inc., released in 2011 for the Nintendo 3DS. Players control the Sakura Samurai, a young warrior on a quest to rescue Princess Cherry Blossom from the forces that have taken her captive. Rather than relying on rapid button inputs, combat centers on reading enemy behavior, evading attacks at the right moment, and capitalizing on openings to land counterstrikes. The protagonist begins with the Sakura Sword and basic combat knowledge imparted by a water-spirit guide, gradually progressing through successive waves of increasingly capable enemies across varied battlegrounds. Large castle stages culminate in major boss encounters, while smaller village stops offer gear, assistance, and interactions with an assortment of eccentric characters. The game's cherry-blossom-tinged aesthetic reinforces its Japanese martial-arts sensibility throughout.
