Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked is a hack-and-slash title developed by Grasshopper Manufacture for PlayStation 2, released in 2006 and based on the anime television series of the same name. The game presents an original "lost episode" set in the northern region of Ezo, the historical name for present-day Hokkaido, framing the story as a continuation of the main cast's search for the sunflower-scented samurai. Players choose from three characters: Mugen, whose fighting style incorporates breakdancing movements; Jin, a disciplined swordsman rooted in Bushido principles; and an unnamed character created exclusively for the game. Enemies range from foreign mercenaries and master swordsmen to assassins, mythical creatures, and gangster monkeys. The combat system's defining feature is its integration of hip-hop music into fight mechanics — collectible music tracks unlock different combo chains, and players can swap between grooves mid-battle to vary their linked attacks tactically.
