Scéal, developed by Joint Custody and released in 2016 for PC, is an indie adventure game rooted in Irish folklore. The title translates as "story," and the game casts the player as the lost soul of a young girl with no memory of her former life. After encountering Branna, the Raven of the Dead, the spirit is tasked with recovering her name and piecing together her past through the pages of a magical storybook. The central mechanic involves painting buildings and objects using a watercolour palette to advance the narrative, and the spirit can shift between an angelic and a banshee form, altering the world's emotional tone between light and darkness. A day/night cycle adjusts both the colour palette and the music as the story unfolds. The soundtrack, sung in Irish, was created in collaboration with folk singers Lorcan Mac Mathuna, Aislinn Duffy, and Florence Glen.
