Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows is a free 2015 expansion to Yacht Club Games' acclaimed action-platformer Shovel Knight, available across a wide range of platforms including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo 3DS, among others. Rather than the titular hero, players control Plague Knight, an alchemist villain pursuing the creation of Serum Supernus, a legendary ultimate potion. Gathering the necessary ingredients requires defeating his former confederates within the Order of No Quarter, making his former allies the primary antagonists. The expansion introduces a distinct playstyle built around Plague Knight's explosive, alchemy-based abilities, which differ substantially from Shovel Knight's mechanics. Alongside the reworked gameplay, the campaign features an entirely new narrative and new boss encounters, while retaining the original game's level design philosophy, visual aesthetic, and music.
