Civilization III: Conquests is a turn-based strategy expansion developed by BreakAway Games and released in 2003 for Windows, serving as the second and final expansion for Civilization III. It brings the total number of playable civilizations to thirty-one by introducing seven new ones — the Byzantines, Dutch, Hittites, Incans, Mayans, Portuguese, and Sumerians — alongside two new civilization traits, seafaring and agricultural, which also prompted trait revisions for some existing civilizations. New government types, Feudalism and Fascism, and additional Wonders of the World such as the Statue of Zeus and the Mausoleum of Mausollos expand the mid-to-late game options. Four new bonus resources and two terrain types, marshes and volcanoes, add environmental complexity; marshes carry disease risk while volcanoes periodically erupt and devastate surrounding tiles. The expansion's centerpiece is a set of historically focused scenarios designed for multiplayer, offering shorter, more contained sessions compared to the standard epic game format.
