Silpheed: The Lost Planet is a sci-fi arcade shooter developed by Game Arts in collaboration with Treasure, released for PlayStation 2 in 2000. Set in a distant future where parasitic monsters are consuming the universe's resources and threatening humanity's remote outposts, the game casts players as elite pilots flying the classified Silpheed starship class in a last-ditch effort to defend the species. A remake of the early 1990s PC shooter of the same name, it features polygonal graphics, a wide range of enemy types, and multiple weapon upgrade options. The North American localization, handled by Working Designs, introduced analog control support and eliminated the slowdown present in the original release, resulting in a notably smoother experience. The game blends the fast-paced structure of classic arcade shooters with the visual capabilities of early PlayStation 2 hardware.
