Smashing Drive is an arcade racing game developed by Gaelco, released in 2000 for arcades and later ported to Xbox and Nintendo GameCube. Players control a taxi navigating the congested streets of New York City, competing to reach successive destinations in the shortest time possible. Progression depends heavily on two core mechanics: power-ups and shortcuts. Most power-ups physically transform the taxi, granting it the ability to bulldoze through city traffic without slowing down. Shortcuts, meanwhile, reward exploratory driving by routing players through the interiors of buildings such as movie theaters and sports arenas, cutting significant time off each run. The combination of vehicle-altering pickups and destructive environmental traversal gives the game a chaotic, over-the-top character that distinguishes it from more straightforward racing titles. The overall structure is simple — race fast, find the hidden paths, and use every power-up advantage available.
