SOCOM: US Navy SEALs is a tactical shooter developed by Zipper Interactive for the PlayStation 2, released in 2002. The player commands a four-man Navy SEAL team across 12 missions set in 2006 and 2007, spanning four regions: Alaska, Thailand, Congo, and Turkmenistan. Objectives include eliminating terrorists, rescuing hostages, recovering intelligence, and destroying enemy installations. The player assumes the role of Kahuna, supported by three AI-controlled teammates — Boomer, Spectre, and Jester — organized into two fireteams, Alpha and Bravo. Orders can be directed at individuals or entire sub-teams, enabling tactical coordination such as holding one group in position while scouting with another. The game shipped with a USB headset, allowing voice commands as an alternative to menu-based inputs. Pre-mission briefings supply maps, photographs, and operational context before each deployment.
