Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice is a 2016 action-adventure platformer developed by Sanzaru Games and published by Sega for the Nintendo 3DS, part of the Sonic Boom spin-off series. Players work through an undiscovered land as one of five playable characters — Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, or Sticks — each with distinct abilities including Sonic's speed, Tails' flight, Knuckles' strength, Amy's hammer, and Sticks' boomerang. The central mechanic involves channeling fire and ice powers to navigate obstacles, solve puzzles, and incapacitate enemies. The antagonists are series regular Dr. Eggman alongside a new adversary named D-Fekt. Beyond the main campaign, the game includes a two-player bot racing mode with six unlockable tracks, boss encounters scaled across both 3DS screens simultaneously, and several minigames featuring time trials and puzzles, among them a new version of the Sea Fox minigame.
"Dr. Eggman has discovered the supercharged element ragnium on the mythical Island of Ragna Rock. He mines it as a fuel source, piping off the messy by-products of the operation to adjacent islands, creating fire and ice gameplay. Using this fuel to power his ultra-fast bot racers is his latest plan to discredit his eternal rival Sonic, but backed by ragnium, fire and ice, a robot army, and D-Fekt, an unflinchingly powerful henchman, this time Dr. Eggman just may succeed. Sonic and friends must re-claim each island by destroying enemies, vanquishing the Island Defender, winning rival races, and reversing the flow of the elemental tubes. It all culminates with an epic battle on the Island of Ragna Rock where Sonic may just have to save Dr. Eggman from his own creation."
