Released by Hardlight and Sega in 2013, Sonic Dash is an endless runner for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone in which players guide Sonic the Hedgehog through procedurally generated courses at high speed. Drawing from the arcade and platformer traditions of the franchise, the game challenges players to dash, jump, and dodge obstacles while accumulating distance and rings across increasingly demanding runs. It marked Hardlight's second Sonic title developed for mobile, following their 2012 remake of Sonic Jump. The core loop centers on surviving as long as possible, collecting power-ups, and beating personal records in a format well suited to the mobile platform. The Android version launched later in November 2013, with Windows Phone support following in December 2014.
Sonic Dash is played as an endless runner, similar to the Temple Run and Rayman Jungle Run video games.In the game, the player directs Sonic through levels, collecting rings and avoiding obstacles and enemies. Unlike other games in the series, Sonic automatically moves forward at all times, similar to Sonic and the Secret Rings. Players are able to share and compete for accomplishments such as "fastest time" or "longest distance".
