Sonic Shuffle is a party board game developed by Hudson Soft and Sonic Team, released for the Dreamcast in 2000. The first entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog series to adopt the party game format, it places Sonic and his companions in a dream world that has been shattered, tasking them with collecting fragments of a powerful artifact called the Master Precioustone to restore it. Gameplay follows the established party board game structure: players move their characters across game boards, competing in minigames between turns to gain advantages and progress toward their goal. The format draws clear comparisons to Nintendo's Mario Party series, translating that style of competitive multiplayer into the Sonic universe. Published by Sega, the game received mixed critical reception at launch.
The story begins when Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy find themselves in an umfamiliar place called Maginaryworld. They meet a small fairy, named Lumina, who asks them for help. She explains that Maginaryworld is the world of people's dreams, and that the source of power there is the Perfect Precioustone. A villain named Void has shattered the Perfect Precioustone into many pieces, resulting in chaos in every part of the world. Lumina Flowlight and the rest of Maginaryworld are counting on Sonic to restore it and bring Lumina back, who mysteriously disappeared along with the Perfect Precioustone.
