Sonic Unleashed is a 2008 platformer developed by Sonic Team for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, built around a dual-gameplay structure tied to a day-and-night cycle. During daytime stages, Sonic runs at high speed through levels that emphasize the fast, momentum-driven platforming associated with the series. At night, a transformation turns Sonic into a Werehog — a slower, more powerful form — shifting the game toward brawler-style combat in which he fights enemies drawn from Gaia mythology. The contrast between these two modes gives the game a split identity: one half a traditional high-speed Sonic experience, the other a hack-and-slash action game with melee-focused encounters.
