Sorcery is a fantasy action-adventure RPG developed by The Workshop Entertainment, released in 2012 exclusively for PlayStation 3. The game makes direct use of the PlayStation Move controller, which functions as a physical magic wand, allowing players to cast spells through motion-based gestures. The central conflict involves the Nightmare Queen, a villain whose forces have spread terror across the land, and only a fledgling sorcerer stands in her way. Gameplay revolves around combining elemental spells drawn from ancient magic to create powerful attacks against enemies. The motion controls are central to the experience, tying physical movement to the casting and chaining of different spell types. Puzzle-solving and role-playing elements complement the combat, making progression dependent on both dexterity with the Move controller and strategic use of the available magical abilities.
Players take the role of a young sorcerer's apprentice, named Finn, and must master the arcane arts in order to protect his homeland. The Nightmare Queen has broken the ancient pact with mankind and threatens to cover the land in eternal night, sending her foul minions across the land. Finn, together with the magical cat Erline, must travel through the dark Faerie Kingdoms to save the land from the darkness that has enshrouded it. The world is based on Irish mythology.
