Spelunker HD Deluxe is a platform-adventure game developed by Irem, released in 2021 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. A full remake of the 2009 PlayStation 3 title Spelunker HD, it follows a cave explorer widely regarded as one of gaming's most fragile protagonists — capable of dying from a fall no taller than his own height or a direct hit from bat droppings. The game spans 100 stages set across varied underground environments, including abandoned mines, underground lakes, ancient ruins, and glaciers, with the goal of reaching the deepest point of each cave. Players must navigate natural hazards, hostile creatures, and elaborate traps, including obstacles tied to a mysterious ancient civilization that appear in later stages. Managing a limited toolkit — bombs, flares, and portable fans among them — alongside precise jumping is essential to progress.
